what is The Psychological Contract?

The Psychological Contract is the concept of an intangible sense of fairness and trust between employer and employee.

Okay, stop laughing, it’s a real thing and has been since the 1960’s. Apparently.

This, “contract”, is the foundation upon which the employees’ sense of job satisfaction is built.

Job security; career prospects; learning and development; equality of pay, workload and benefits; managerial support, and a good reputation of the company as whole with the client and the public.

Your chances of actually encountering any of the above ranges from zero, to a snowball’s chance in hell.

If you do encounter any of them, please inform the Guinness World Records as there is always a first time for everything.

Okay, granted, it is possible to encounter some of these concepts during the course of your employment, but it is unlikely to be all at the same time, and most likely to be happening to someone else.

Best of luck with that.
