What is Environmental Awareness?
Part 5: Hungry?
Environmental Awareness, is not the same as Environmental Action.
It doesn’t pay to step forward and question the modern standard.
It wasn’t that long ago that environmental activists were dismissed as tree-huggers and naturistic whack-jobs. Now the vox populi are weeping crocodile tears and begging for salvation. But that doesn’t stop environmental activists, from being publicly vilified and subjected to ad hominem attacks by overpaid, overbearing, bloated sacks of bullshit, with orange skin, fake-news hair, and a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
Changing the consumption model, would put people out of work, wouldn’t it? If we stopped using hydrocarbons for fuel and packaging and changed, overnight, to electric personal transport and biodegradable products, imagine all the revenue oil producing nations would lose. Layoffs would be inevitable and billionaires and princes would have to sell off their property portfolios, yachts and Lamborghinis, just to survive. Saaad! (Pouty face)
If we stopped buying the latest in fashionable clothing or electronic baubles, some companies might actually have to shut down their overseas sweatshops. Well, that’s just unacceptable. Isn’t it?
If we stopped ravaging the oceans with discarded plastic and overfishing, and we stopped slicing down great swathes of plant life, all those pesky, freeloading, animals might survive and the biosphere might replenish. Get jobs animals!
How would we feed everybody during this period of change and upheaval? We have nothing to spare!
In regards to overpopulation, the obvious answer is to… well, no. Let’s not go there, eh? Oops! Nearly.
No, we’ll just keep going the way we are going, won’t we? The population will continue to grow. The rich will get richer and the poor will increase in number and get poorer, and when the land is all desert, the seas are acidic sludge, and the biosphere is dead, we’ll huddle, ten to a room, in our shanties whilst nibbling on our ration of high-protein wafer and looking forward to Tuesday. Because Tuesday, is Soylent Green day.
And as we all know, Soylent Green is people.
